OVERVIEW
The Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) is for international students seeking admissions to Primary 2 to 5 and Secondary 1 to 3 in the following academic year.
International students who were formerly studying in our mainstream schools should approach our Customer Service Centre for assistance.
RELEASE OF SCHOOL OFFERS
Depending on your child’s performance in the test, they will be offered a place in a local mainstream school. By July 2022, you can check here for details on:
- The outcome release dates.
- When your child must report to their school.
The reporting period may be adjusted accordingly in response to developments in the COVID-19 situation.
Applicants who do not report to the offered schools within the reporting periods may have their places offered to other applicants.
There will be no school choice and no release of test results. Please note that we will not consider any request for a different school posting or subsequent transfer to another school for successful applicants.
If your child is holding a Dependant’s Pass (DP) or Immigration Exemption Order (IEO)
They do not need to apply for a Student’s Pass (STP). Their admission can be confirmed immediately upon reporting to the offered school.
If your child does not have a DP or IEO
Their admission is subject to them obtaining a STP.
In this case, your child will receive a STP Registration Acknowledgement Letter (RAL) from the school. You are advised to apply for their STP with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) as soon as possible upon receiving the RAL so that your child can start school as early as possible.
You may refer to ICA for more information , including the requirements for local sponsorship.

AEIS-Primary: $340
AEIS-Secondary: $630
GST at the prevailing rate is chargeable on these fees.
Fees are non-refundable.
APPLY AEIS
You can submit your application from July 2022. Applications may close early when all places for the admissions tests are filled.
To apply, follow these steps:
- Submit an online application. Make sure you have a valid email address.
- Make payment for the fees through the preferred mode of credit or debit card during your online application.
- If you are unable to do so, you can also pay through PayNow or NETS. You will receive an email with QR code for payment through PayNow and instructions to pay through NETS. If you choose to pay by NETS, you are to make an appointment at least 2 days in advance before proceeding to our Customer Service Centre. Find out how to make an appointment.
- Email the following supporting documents in PDF or JPG to seab_as@seab.gov.sg within 1 week. Please indicate the applicant’s name as per passport in the email subject title.
- Your child’s birth certificate. If it is in other languages, you have to submit an accurate English translated copy.
- Your child’s passport with validity of at least 6 months.
- Your child’s statement of results for the relevant Cambridge English Qualification (CEQ) test taken within 12 months before the month of submission of their AEIS-Primary online application. There is no need to submit the Cambridge English certificate.
If your application and payment are successful, you will receive an official email from the Singapore Examinations & Assessment Board (SEAB) by early September. The email will include:
- The AEIS entry proof
- Your child’s details
- Index number
- Test timetable
- Test venue
- Instructions for applicants, such as do’s and don’ts, what to bring, etc.
If your child has taken the AEIS or S-AEIS and was offered a school place before, you will not be able to apply online again.

If your child is seeking admission to secondary schools, you can choose to apply for the Sec 1, Sec 2 or Sec 3 test.
Your child should not be more than 2 years older than the appropriate age for that level. |
TEST details
The schedule for the AEIS tests will be available here by July 2022.
Your child has to arrive by the reporting time stated on their entry proof and sit at their assigned desks at least 15 minutes before the tests begin. They are required to bring along the following documents:
- Their original passport.
- A copy of their entry proof issued by SEAB.
Preparing for AEIS test
For AEIS-Primary, your child needs to be familiar with the Mathematics topics taught in our mainstream schools for the level preceding the one that they applied for.
For example, if your child wishes to seek admission to Primary 3 and is assigned the Primary 2/3 test, they should be familiar with Primary 2 content.
For AEIS-Secondary, your child needs to be familiar with the English and Mathematics topics taught in our mainstream schools for the level preceding the one that they applied for.
For example, if your child wishes to seek admission to Secondary 3, they should be familiar with Secondary 2 content.

Mathematics test The Mathematics test comprises 2 parts. Your child will be given 25 minutes to complete Part 1 and 40 minutes to complete Part 2:

For short-answer questions, your child will have to show the method of solution clearly by writing their working steps in the spaces provided in addition to providing the final answers. Your child will need a pencil to shade their answers for the multiple-choice questions on the Optical Answer Sheet (OAS). |

Mathematics test The Mathematics test comprises 2 parts. Your child will be given 35 minutes to complete Part 1, and 50 minutes to complete Part 2:

For short-answer and open-ended questions, your child will have to show the method of solution clearly by writing their working steps in the spaces provided in addition to providing the final answers. Sec 1, Sec 2 and Sec 3 Tests |
English test Your child will be given 2 hours 10 minutes to complete the test which comprises 2 parts: Part 1: Writing. 2 topics are set for Sec 1 test, and 4 topics are set for Sec 2 and Sec 3 tests. Your child have to choose 1 topic and write a composition on it:
